ZEN JUDO FAMILY

( 2nd Dan to 3rd Dan )

NIDAN TO SADAN BELT SYLLABUS

Minimum Time:- By Invitation of the Masters only. 

THE FULL SYLLABUS TO 2nd. DAN PLUS:

KATAME NO KATA  ------  FORMS OF GRAPPLING:
To be performed as Tori and Uke.

Osae-komi Waza -----  Techniques:
Kuzure-kesa-gatame -----  Broken Scarf Hold
Kata-gatame -----  Shoulder Hold
Kami-shiho-gatame -----  Upper Four-Quarters Hold
Yoko-shiho-gatame ----- Side Locking Four-Quarters Hold
Kuzure-kami-shiho-gatame ----- Broken Upper Four-Quarters Hold
Shime Waza -----  Techniques:
Kata-juji-jime -----  Single Cross Strangle
Hadaka-jime -----  Naked Choke
Okuri-eri-jime -----  Sliding Collar Strangle
Kata-ha-jime ----- Single Wing Strangle
Gyaku-juji-jime ----- Reverse Cross Strangle

Kansetsu Waza -----  Techniques:
Ude-garami -----  Entangled Armlock
Ude-hishigi-juji-gatame ----- Cross Armlock
Ude-hishigi Ude-gatame ----- Straight Armlock
Ude-hishigi-hiza-gatame ----- Knee Armlock
Asi-garami ----- Entangled Leglock

Note:  It is permitted only to practice Ashi-garami in Kata.

NOTE: This is an official syllabus of the Zen Judo Family and supersedes all other syllabuses.

Promotion beyond 3rd Dan is at the invitation of the Masters and any grading requirements will be at there discretion.

Normally at this level the Black belt would be required to demonstrate a high technical understanding of Zen Judo and the ability and willingness to pass this on to lower grades through teaching and running clubs.

This is the original requirement for 3rd Dan as laid down by Shihan McCarthy. Please note that the BZJFA syllabus has been amended and now requires both the Nage-No-Kata and the Katame-No-Kata for the grading to 2nd Dan. And the Ju-No-Kata for grading to 3rd Dan.
