Han Setemi
(half-sacrifice) techniques which are performed on one knee are introduced at this grading. Only four techniques are specified for the grading but you might be asked to demonstrate any of the throws in the syllabus to han setemi if the grader wishes.

Also note that there is a higher requirement for left-handed techniques and it is important that you practice both right and left handed throws and ground holds.

This is the first grading that requires the student to demonstrate Counter Two-By-Twos which simulates the advanced randori which is practiced by Dan grades in which they counter each other until one makes a mistake and is thrown. This takes a lot of practice to make it look easy and most students will struggle with this for many years. But the hope is that what you learn will translate into better and more flowing randori practice.
