On Friday 6th May 2005 a number of the Zen Judo Family Custodians and students met at Petersfield Zen Judo Club to see Shihan Val Churchill, head of The Zen Judo Family, receive her 7th Dan.

A presentation speech was made by Richard McCarthy 5th Dan and a framed poem and flowers was presented to Shihan Churchill to mark the occasion by Peggy McCarthy (Wife of the late Shihan "Mac" McCarthy - founder of Zen Judo).

I would like to congratulate Val on being awarded her 7th dan. I have known Val for the past 25 years when I started to train at her dojo in Lovedean, when she was a 1st Kyu. I can't think of any one who deserves it more. She is a credit to Shihan Mac McCarthy in the way she runs her club and the way she teaches on the mat.
