News Archive: The Future of American Zen Judo - Can Minority Martial Arts Survive
Having read the e-mail from Sensei Keo Cavalcanti about the situation facing The American Zen Judo Family. Do you think there is a place in modern martial arts for the small independent club or minority martial art. Should all Judo Clubs be part of the BJA/BJC or has the non-contest judo club got a valid place in the martial arts.

First of all lets get it straight - competitive judo is not a martial art! Non-competitive Judo is a martial art and is more closely aligned with other martial arts. If Zen-Judo people stopped looking for their bedfellows among the like of the BJA/BJC/AJA and their affiliates and looked among other martial arts practitioners for their friends they would be amazed that there are so many!
I am a member of the International Association of Martial Arts Schools (iaomas) and though there are few Judoka there, there are a 600 or more other clubs which recognise me and my art as equal worth with theirs. Visit www.iaomas.com and join up for free and find friendship among the big wide world of non-egotistical martial arts practitioners. Don't bother looking to cosy up with the BJA etc, they don't understand us, don't like us, we have left them way behind. Let us move forward in the martial arts while others content themselves with wrestling in pyjamas.
