Instructors (Left to Right) Sensei John Robertson 4th Dan ZJF and Sensei Joe Harbert 6th Dan UKTJ.The first session was demonstrated how the Jujitsu style has its roots in the Zen Judo style.

First IGAS Course at Portsmouth - Report
Posted on Sunday, March 13, 2011 @ 17:16:25 UTC in International Gentle Arts Society
by sensei
The first IGAS course was hosted by Sensei Joe Harbert at Portsmouth on Sunday 13th March and was a great success, students and black belts form a number of clubs and martial arts styles had the chance to train in relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Sensei Joe Harbert 6th Dan Chief Instructor of Traditional Judo UK, started of the morning with sessions on Judo Techniques from the past and Classic Judo Submissions. Unfortunately Hanshi Bruce Heffer 8th Dan Chief Instructor BKJJF couldn't make the course, so in the afternoon John Robertson 3rd Dan Zen Judo stood in for him and gave an over view of the Zen Judo Syllabus. The course was finished off with a session on Pressure Point Enhancements to Throwing by Sensei Jim Dart 5th Dan and Chief Instructor Kenshindoryu.
I would like to thank all the Instructors and students for an enjoyable day and look forward to seeing you all at the next IGAS course.

Associate Members
IGAS is proud to have the following independent groups as supporters and Associate Members
The British Zen Judo Family Association (BZJFA)
Formed in 1999 by Shihan Andrew Millard BEM 6th Dan the association is now run by Shihan Gordon Lawson, 7th Dan and provides a home for like-minded clubs and individuals that wish to train in a structured and orderly association.
BZJFA practice a traditional style of judo and self-defence with adults and children in a safe and enjoyable manner, without feeling the need to prove the art in a competitive environment.
The British Kempo Ju-Jitsu Federation (BKJJF)
Honouring the late Hanshi Bill Heffer, the BKJJF was set up in 1989 by his son, Hanshi Bruce Heffer, 8th Dan and Sensei Terry Coughtry, who still run the organisation. Bill Heffer had been a friend of Dominick McCarthy, the founder of Zen Judo and the BKJJF still practices the Ju-Jitsu style set up by Hanshi Bill which he named Zen Ju-Jitsu Ryu.
With over 3000 members the BKJJF is a leading force within the UK for martial artists of all styles, and numbers practitioners of Ju-Jitsu, Kempo Jutsu, Karate, Judo, Aikido and Iaido among its membership.
