The Minister for Sport has, in reply to questions tabled in the House March 12 2007 by Martin Horwood MP, replied:
“Access to the UKCC qualifications is not dependent on membership of a specified Governing Body.”

On January 30 2007 the Minister wrote to me:
“The BJA are currently working on arrangements to ensure that people who are outside the BJA, but who have the necessary technical competence, are able to access the qualification.”

We must be consulted about these arrangements.
The UKCC is a National award and must be available to all who want it and on equal terms and with right of appeal.

I have written to the Minister asking him to confirm:
1. The judo UKCC will be available to all who want it, on equal terms.
2. The “arrangements”, criteria, required to access the judo UKCC award, and the content of the qualification, will be universally suitable for all who want it, taking into account that there are different judo organisations, with differing styles, approaches, rules, and awards. (And this applies to all martial arts)
3. You stated in the House, March 12 2007: “Access to the UKCC qualifications is not dependent on membership of a specified Governing Body. Will you clarify this; that access to a judo UKCC is not dependent on membership of any organisation, National Governing Body or otherwise.

I will continue to keep this forum updated.

Good wishes
